Clear Vision

Clear vision is an upcycled garment made for the Trashion show and exhibit 2024 and consists of a clear vinyl over coat with orange zigzag stitching twisted inside out with a high shoulder top harness molded out of recycled plastic food containers. The containers, cups, egg cartons, jars and water jugs are melted and formed into a shoulder-like abstract shape draped around the neck and shoulders of the wearer with a heavy silver chain to balance the weight of the large horn extending up from the right shoulder.

The coat is sewn on a vintage Singer sewing machine with vintage thread, the shoulder harness was created using a heat gun to melt and form the plastics to fit the shoulder and both E6000 and hot glue to hold it together, using the heat to make a strong fuse along with the glue.

The piece came together as a response to the overwhelming use of single serve plastics, and their prevalence in our lives. The incredibly sad amount of containers and other types of plastic floating around in our oceans gave me inspiration for this piece in order to give an example of the excess we as a society throw away but also as a way to create something new from these throw away items and give them another life. Clear Vision was created for and debuted at the first annual Trashion Fashion Show in Long Beach California on June 9th 2024.
